Thousand valleys

The fascinating Sunrise colors on the vast, silent "thousand valleys", as seen from the summit of "God mountain". This remote and tranquilizing mountain which is located 55 kilometers from Iran-Turkmenistan boundary; is a holy place for Turkman people who live in northeastern Iran. There are three tombs on this mountain belonging to Khaled-e-nabi, the latest pre-Muhammad prophet and his two disciples called Aalem-baba and Choopan-ata. The humbly building in this image, is Choopan-ata's tomb. There is however a surprising prehistoric cemetery on top of an adjacent hill.

Photoburst is a photo of the day contest focusing on Travel Photography.

Everyday (from the 1st until the 28th), among all images uploaded by our contributors, we publish a photo of the day (POTD).
Every week (on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th), among all POTDs of the preceding week, we select a photo of the week (POTW).
On the 30th we select the best POTW as photo of the month (POTM).

The author of the POTM receives:
a US$50 gift certificate to Kiva + (in even-numbered months only) an invitation to be Photoburst's guest editor in the following month!
