Kalai ruti (a form of tortila), an essential staple of Chapai Nowabganj, North Bengal. The dough is prepared with a mixture of flower and ground kalai daal (a local species of lintel) and is prepared to bake by spinning on the palms. It is baked on a round and deeply curved mud pottery.
The skillful hands spin and toss the dough with an air of age old experience. The woman puts on her devotion while making the bread for the family.
Kalai ruti makes a very delicious meal along with onion chatini dipped in sour mango pickle oil.
I have a way of looking at the world, and I love capturing it through the lens. I call myself a hobbyist since I do it for nourishing my creative appetite.
This is Rafi Ul Islam's first POTD

Johny Utah Rafi, thank you for letting us know more about this picture. IMO people often forget how captions can enhance an image. Don't get me wrong, it is a wonderful one. I love the colors, framing and how you captured the movement. on 2010-06-02, at 04:44:30
Keira Leigh Great shot, congratulations on the POTD! Cheers, Keira on 2010-06-02, at 06:53:35
Rafi Thanks Julie and Keira, it is an inspiration! on 2010-06-03, at 01:57:00
Rafi Ul Islam Thanks Johny for your kind words, it means much to me. I like to share my thoughts and the story behind a picture so that the audience can see my point of view. though i believe that the photo should stand out to express most of it, still it could be open to interpretation. a photo is not only a photo to me, it is like a work of pros or poetry, it must communicate! on 2010-06-03, at 01:58:47
Photoburst is a photo of the day contest focusing on Travel Photography.
Everyday (from the 1st until the 28th), among all images uploaded by our contributors, we publish a photo of the day (POTD).
Every week (on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th), among all POTDs of the preceding week, we select a photo of the week (POTW).
On the 30th we select the best POTW as photo of the month (POTM).
From May 2015 onwards we will cease to award gift certificates to Kiva and guest editorship invitations to our POTM winners. However, occasionally we may accept/address guest editorship proposals, as we strongly believe they are a great way of further involving photographers with Photoburst. Interested? Email us at email@example.com.

He's known for pushing friends into the most expensive photographic equipment... several family inheritances have been wasted, but they often acknowledge his smart advices. Owner of a clinical eye, he can spot perfection amidst chaos as easily as a small imperfection on a perfect photo. He's also an occasional stork stalker and, above all, a caring father of two beautiful children. Gastão's current location: Covilhã, Portugal.
... give us a hand. He's our Computer Science genius and is currently addicted to photographing cats. He's a natural born optimist who makes a joke out of anything... don't mess with his Toyota though. Eventually, his stocks will rise from death and he'll invest in livestock and vineyards. He's got highly trained fingers either playing the piano or shortcutting photoshop. We hope he'll stick around after marrying his college sweetheart. In the mean time, he'll dissect every submitted photograph into binary code. Pedro's current location: Covilhã, Portugal.
