Jewels of the Kalahari

While volunteering in Botswana last year with a cheetah conservation organization, I took a San Bushman walking tour near the town of Ghanzi. The Hunter-Gatherer life of the San Bushman has all but disappeared. There are few remaining Bushmen who still retain the survival skills of their ancient way of life. This tour gave us a fascinating glimpse of how the San adapted to the Kalahari Desert. The two women in the image caught my attention as the golden evening light lit up their smiling faces. It is a reminder of the warmth and beauty of these amazing people, but also sadly of a fast disappearing unique and ancient culture.

I primarily love to photograph nature, but also enjoy traveling and experiencing other cultures. Photoburst is a photo of the day contest focusing on Travel Photography.

Everyday (from the 1st until the 28th), among all images uploaded by our contributors, we publish a photo of the day (POTD).
Every week (on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th), among all POTDs of the preceding week, we select a photo of the week (POTW).
On the 30th we select the best POTW as photo of the month (POTM).

The author of the POTM receives:
a US$50 gift certificate to Kiva + (in even-numbered months only) an invitation to be Photoburst's guest editor in the following month!
