Earlier this month, I was one of the 70 lucky people selected to be at the Caminho do Sertão's project, which aims to rescue the country culture and recreate some of the paths taken by the brazilian writer Guimarães Rosa.
Even that the project's goal was to walk more than 150km in seven days on foot (!), walking distances of up to 31km per day and stopping at villages and communities where residents were eagerly waiting for us, after the first day, I realized it would be much more useful for me (and my legs) if I took this route by car, arriving before the walkers so I could connect more with the locals.
Turns out I couldn't have made a better decision. So many characters, so many locations and so many stories, such as Geralda and Jose, whose marriage endured the brazilian dictatorship times, even when a gun was pointed at Geralda's head and when José was arrested for no reason and tortured several times. They've been married for 53 years now, and I asked Jose to kiss his wife so I could take a portrait of them as a happy couple. Although he promptly tried to kiss her, she stopped him and said: 'Walk it off, man!".
Photoburst is a photo of the day contest focusing on Travel Photography.
Everyday (or almost), we publish the best image uploaded by our contributors so you can get your daily fix of outstanding travel pictures from around the world.
Since 2008 we have been blessed to feature the work of both professional and keen travellers, whose talent and vision are Photoburst's core of the matter. We suggest visiting the Archive and Hall of Fame sections before submitting your work, for a glimpse at what we are looking for.
We are currently accepting guest editorship proposals, as we strongly believe they are a great way of further involving photographers with Photoburst and our audience (please check the Editors section). Interested? Email us at email@example.com.

... as long as there's an advanced Maths course in a (not necessarily) nearby country. He's known for pushing friends into the most expensive photographic equipment... several family inheritances have been wasted, but they often acknowledge his smart advices. Owner of a clinical eye, he can spot perfection amidst chaos as easily as a small imperfection on a perfect photo. He's also an occasional stork stalker and, above all, a caring father of two beautiful children. Gastão's current location: Covilhã, Portugal.
... give us a hand. He's our Computer Science genius and is currently addicted to photographing cats. He's a natural born optimist who makes a joke out of anything... don't mess with his Toyota though. Eventually, his stocks will rise from death and he'll invest in livestock and vineyards. He's got highly trained fingers either playing the piano or shortcutting photoshop. We hope he'll stick around after marrying his college sweetheart. In the mean time, he'll dissect every submitted photograph into binary code. Pedro's current location: Covilhã, Portugal.
... would only be true if reading travel, geographic and surfing books/magazines accounted some mileage. He checks his e-mail every 2 minutes and he's often seen going cold-turkey when offline. Still divided between several walks of life, he strongly believes in Murphy's law "If anything can go wrong, it will". Photography plays a huge role in his life, at least judging by his conversation topics. Gray hair will eventually take the better of him. Pedro's current location: Covilhã, Portugal.
