Ritwick is an award winner photographer based in Kolkata. Photography for him is not a hobby but something much more than passion. He has won a number of awards, both regional and national, in a number of photography competitions on immersion. He has got recognition from Hindusthan Times in weekend photography contest for a no of times. His tenure of 1 yr in Kolkata on Wheels magazine included a wide range of great works in roadscape, car launch, beware (a guide to safe journey in city roads), heritage bldg. etc. He has also ventured into travel photography, photo journalism, documentary, wildlife photography, architecture, etc.
Ritwick’s vision of work is very simple yet so wonderful. He just wants to work good, not to impress others but himself. As he says, “Your inner soul is the best critic you can ever have.” He wants to make a world tour through his photography and ensures that each of his work do have a message to convey, not just a picture.
Ritwick’s first introduction to photography was an accident. On a family tour his mother presented him a camera and inspired to take interest in photography. She said, “Look at the world through this and let others see a whole new world that they don’t see in their daily life.” He started his photography career in 1999 after passing 10th. His father bought him a camera to kick start his photography career. In 2000 his uncle helped him with a new camera to carry his career ahead. His first training on photography was at Universal Art Gallery (since 1920, now it’s sold out). Late Mr. Sarol Dutta was very impressed to see his interest and potential in photography and taught him how to hold camera, how to use lens, how to click and every small things of photography. He has also done a photography course from Mr. Atanu Paul of Third Eye. Mr. Subhas Dutta has helped him with lots of cameras, lens and all. Late Mr. Debasish Roy has also helped a lot for the cameras. Mr. Somnath Ghosh has helped a lot in the equipments. Mr. Amitabha Deb (Amit-da, as Ritwick calls him), the owner on Indiana Publication, helps him with the relevant books. Mr. Sanjib Agarwal, owner, Capital Electronics and Mr. Himangshu Palit, manager, Sanjeevani Systech (P) Ltd., have helped him a lot in buying cameras and repairing them. Connect with Ritwick Dey on:
Photoburst is a photo of the day contest focusing on Travel Photography.
Everyday (from the 1st until the 28th), among all images uploaded by our contributors, we publish a photo of the day (POTD).
Every week (on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th), among all POTDs of the preceding week, we select a photo of the week (POTW).
On the 30th we select the best POTW as photo of the month (POTM).
From May 2015 onwards we will cease to award gift certificates to Kiva and guest editorship invitations to our POTM winners. However, occasionally we may accept/address guest editorship proposals, as we strongly believe they are a great way of further involving photographers with Photoburst. Interested? ... as long as there's an advanced Maths course in a (not necessarily) nearby country. He's known for pushing friends into the most expensive photographic equipment... several family inheritances have been wasted, but they often acknowledge his smart advices. Owner of a clinical eye, he can spot perfection amidst chaos as easily as a small imperfection on a perfect photo. He's also an occasional stork stalker and, above all, a caring father of two beautiful children. Gastão's current location: Covilhã, Portugal.
... give us a hand. He's our Computer Science genius and is currently addicted to photographing cats. He's a natural born optimist who makes a joke out of anything... don't mess with his Toyota though. Eventually, his stocks will rise from death and he'll invest in livestock and vineyards. He's got highly trained fingers either playing the piano or shortcutting photoshop. We hope he'll stick around after marrying his college sweetheart. In the mean time, he'll dissect every submitted photograph into binary code. Pedro's current location: Covilhã, Portugal.
... would only be true if reading travel, geographic and surfing books/magazines accounted some mileage. He checks his e-mail every 2 minutes and he's often seen going cold-turkey when offline. Still divided between several walks of life, he strongly believes in Murphy's law "If anything can go wrong, it will". Photography plays a huge role in his life, at least judging by his conversation topics. Gray hair will eventually take the better of him. Pedro's current location: Covilhã, Portugal.
